White Christmas Sangria Recipe {for the holiday season}

Something about the holiday season makes me love sangria. Rather, it makes me love sangria even more. I don’t think I’ll ever go another Thanksgiving without a huge pitcher of spiced cranberry sangria. Nor will I go the Christmas season without this White Christmas Sangria. In fact, I think I might celebrate these holidays every month of the year just so I can justify making these sangrias.

Those two sangria recipes are completely different from each other. I think the only thing they have in common is each one has an orange and a green apple. Other than that, the liqueurs, fruits and wine are nothing alike. And that’s just fine with me. Because they are both freaking delicious.

So, back to this White Christmas Sangria. I wanted to make a sangria with fruit that’s in season during Christmastime. At first I was thinking pomegranates but I’ve already made a lot of pomegranate cocktails. The husband suggested persimmon. I liked that idea.

I only see persimmons at the store around this time of year. And the only thing I’ve ever seen them used are these cookies that my grandma makes every year. So, they sounded perfect for this sangria. After a quick trip to Whole Foods, my reusable grocery bag was filled with persimmons, Asian pears, granny smith apples and oranges.

This was after my trip to Total Wine where I picked up a bottle of Barenjager Honey Liqueur and a medium bodied Sauvignon Blanc. I may or may not have picked up some other bottles of booze for my overflowing liquor cabinet. But let’s not talk about that right now.

Technically, this White Christmas Sangria should serve about 6 people. But, if you happen to have a couple hours with your best friend or favorite sister in law, it might only be enough for two people. Not that I know from experience or anything…
