There are many different types of rum on the market. From spiced to Jamaican, Puerto Rican to flavored you can find it all when walking through the booze aisle. One of the latest rum collections on the market are the Cruzan Distiller’s Collection Rums. Made in the spirit of The Don’t Hurry Rum, these premium aged rums are definitely worth trying.
About Cruzan Distiller’s Collection Rums
Cruzan Rum has been produced for hundreds of years on the island of St. Croix. They have several different rums available with the most recent being the Cruzan Distiller’s Collection Rums which includes the Cruzan Estate Diamond Light Rum, Cruzan Estate Diamond Dark Rum and Cruzan Single Barrel Rum.
Cruzan Estate Diamond Light Rum is a blend of rums aged five to twelve years in American oak barrels. The rums are blended together and then charcoal filtered to create a smooth finish. It has a pale golden color and smells of molasses with hints of vanilla and tropical fruits. The taste is smooth with hints of vanilla and coconut and a little spice.
Cruzan Estate Diamond Dark Rum is also a blend of rums aged five to twelve years in American oak barrels. It has a dark amber color and smells of oak and vanilla with hints of molasses, cinnamon and toasted coconut. The taste is rich and full-bodied with oak tones and light buttery notes along with hints of vanilla and caramel.
Cruzan Single Barrel Rum is a unique blend of rums aged five to twelve years in American oak barrels and bottled one cask at a time. After the initial aging, the rum is picked and blended into new American oak barrels to be aged again. It has won several awards from 2000 to 2011 including the Gold Medal at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
While I haven’t tried the Single Barrel, it’s said to have a rich aroma with hints of dried fruit, wood and light, sweet bakery notes. The taste is supposed to be a balanced blend of caramel sweetness and oak with a warm buttery finish.
All three of the Cruzan Distiller’s Collection Rums are 80 proof.

Cruzan Distiller’s Collection Rums Cocktail Recipes
Cruzan Estate Diamond Light Rum is great for mixing in your favorite rum cocktails including mojitos, daiquiris, and my personal favorite, the Caipirissima (recipe below). Cruzan Estate Diamond Dark Rum can be sipped or used in drinks that call for aged rum like the Añejo Highball. Cruzan Single Barrel Rum is said to be best enjoyed sipped neat or on the rocks. Note… I received a bottle of Cruzan Light and Dark Rum to review. I did not receive compensation and all thoughts, opinions and pictures are my own. As is my love of the spirit that was once referred to as pirate juice.
