Caramel Apple Bourbon Cocktail

One of my favorite fall cocktails so far this year is this caramel apple bourbon cocktail. It took a few tries to get the recipe where I wanted it, but after that I was hooked. In fact, I might have lost a few hours of sleep thinking about this drink and the Bulleit Bourbon I used in it. I enjoyed it that much.

When I started making this caramel apple bourbon cocktail, I was going for a cold drink. I melted the caramel before adding it to the cocktail shaker with ice but after giving it a good shake and a pour, the caramel was still at the bottom of the shaker. So, I ditched the idea of a cold drink and instead went for something hot. Which actually makes more sense since it’s fall and cold outside.

As I mentioned before, I used Bulleit Bourbon for the cocktail. It’s an award winning Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey with really great flavor. It has a fruity taste along with vanilla, caramel and peppery spices. I may or may not have used half of the bottle making just this caramel apple bourbon cocktail. But not all in the same night.

I could have made my own caramel sauce but I was a little lazy. Instead, I went with Hot Cakes caramel sauce with vanilla and butter that I found at Whole Foods. For your drinks, make your own caramel or pick up your favorite brand from the store. If you have any left after this drink, use the caramel in some hot buttered rum cocktails. Those are also perfect for chilly evenings.
