Spring is here which means Blood Oranges are ripe and ready to squeeze and muddle into cocktails. We’ve used this delicious fruit in our Blood Orange Martini and Blood Orange Ginger Cocktail, so it’s safe to say we’re big fans. This time, we are using them in this blood orange vodka cocktail with Grand Marnier.
What I love most about blood oranges (besides the rich color, of course) is the sweet followed by tangy taste. We suggest adding a bit of sugar (or simple syrup) to this cocktail to tone down the tang, but you can always leave it out. Either way, you’re going to love this drink.
Plus, blood oranges have more antioxidants in them than regular oranges thanks to the red pigment. So, by using fresh squeezed juice, you are doing something good for your body (or at least balancing out the alcohol in the drink).
If you’re lucky enough to have a blood orange tree in your backyard, you can easily enjoy this drink all season long. But if you’re like me and can’t grow citrus, you’ll have to stock up on blood oranges whenever they are in the store.
Don’t forget to add a slice or two as garnish for the drink. It adds to the visual appeal of the drink. And we all like pretty things, right?
